We found the Central Canteen on a Saturday morning after walking around the city center of Ipswich for almost an hour looking for a real place to eat breakfast at, rather than going to one of the many fastfood joints we saw during our walk.
The Central Canteen might not seem like much at first but is a real gem for tourists and locals alike. Very nice service, reasonable prices and also - a very nice, typically British/English breakfast menu.
I opted for the "Morning bite" (fried egg on toast, bacon, sausage, beans in tomato sauce) while my boyfriend ordered their "Pancake breakfast" (three American pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon).
We were both very happy with our orders, although I found the tomato sauce a tad bit too sweet and the sausage wasn't what I like at all, so I gave it to my boyfriend.
Like I already mentioned, very nice and caring staff. You can pay by card or by cash.
The Central Canteen can be found on Queen Street, some 200 meters from the main boardwalk in Ipswich, a five minutes walk from the train station. -

I found this place about 3 months ago and think it's great. Nothingtoo fancy, simple food at a reasonable price with quick and friendly service. The best bit is that we go with 3 young children and they are really really helpful! They're also happy to make things smaller of share portions which is great with the younger kids.
Some of the pricing is a bit odd, some things are very reasonable (paninis and specials) yet some are really expensive (cakes and hot chocolate) -

I could not disagree more!! I find the staff very friendly and the food is always freshly made.I bring my disabled mother and she is always treated with care and respect.

I was quite dissapointed with the establishment that has replaced the wonderful Vagabonds. The food was quite frankly bland and overpriced and I found the staff to be rather rude. Not a place I will be frequenting!

Central Canteen is just off the pedestrianised area of Ipswich. There is a reasonable choice of food. The all day breakfasts are good. Fast service, simple food at reasonable prices.
